“I knew that in order to make Neverland work for a modern audience, I would need to find a way to creatively remove the classic version’s elements of misogyny and cultural appropriation. I wanted to highlight the role female characters played in the overall narrative of Pan, and I wanted Peter to be a fully developed, less static character.”

— Celine Grey, author, “Ruby & the Pirates”

In this modernized version of PAN, Wendy and Tinker Bell are brave allies, Tiger Lily and her siblings are the most clever children on the island, girls can be pirates and lost “boys,” and Hook’s crew of pirates know there is something more valuable than gold: love & friendship.

“I knew from the casting process that one of our youngest Islander boys dreamed of being Captain Hook. Watching his face during Hook’s scenes in rehearsals, I knew I had to find a way to get him on stage with the pirates. This image captures the joy our stage brings to the lives of children.” -CG
